    Hi all,
The school's SAT10 (Stanford Achievement) scores are in. DD9 scored in the 99th percentile for the reading group. Overall for entire test was 97%, math 96%. Should I send that in to DYS, along with DVD and IQ scores? Or, is this test meaningless to them, do you think?
    Thanks!

Oy vey, Dottie. Too bad for us, I was hoping to have something more concrete to send besides the DVD and IQ report. No, it was not done out of level. Thanks so much.

I agree that I'd send it, but also that it doesn't show them 99.9th percentile achievement b/c that's not the way the test was normed. Just for reference, my oldest dd took the ITBS (grade level) in 3rd grade and scored in the 99th percentile for reading total, core total, science, social studies, sources of info, and composite and in the 92th percentile for math. She is not a PG child -- more like MG-HG. Tests like the SAT-10 and ITBS that are administered at grade level don't quite get at distinguishing btwn the various levels of giftedness, unfortunately.

    I think I understand.....
The SAT has such a low ceiling so it is hard to determine highly advanced skills whereas other test can allow a student move grade levels ahead and further seperate them from normal. Right???

Check out your test sheets, on occasion a perfect score will have a percentile at the 95th or even lower.

Does this happen because 5% of the kids who took the test also had perfect scores?
    Thanks for your feed back!
All this percentile stuff goes right over my head. laugh

    Floridama,
If you want to expand your knowledge about testing, this is a good resource:
    http://www.wrightslaw.com/info/test.index.htm
It's written for parents who need to advocate for Special Education but I've found the information very useful for gifted children too.
    P.S.
