If you have an opportunity to relocate anywhere in the country, where would you go to give your HG+ a chance to succeed in public school? DS is 7 YO. I guess I am looking at elementary schools.

I understand a number of parents, me included, are fed up trying to work out with our public schools to accommodate our HG+ kids. Many of us gave up, me included, and went homeschooling instead. Many of us advocate for our children for years before they are heard. Many of us advocate for years, but we never got what our kids deserve.

Is there a better school, city, or state for gifted kids?

Or maybe you have found a good solution. Can you share with us?

I'd look for a public school cohort program where all GT kids are grouped in the same classroom by ability then moved through a curriculum at an accelerated pace starting from K through HS. I'd also look for a school that will admit you before you move. It then comes down to how you like the teachers.

I'd then find tutors in specialized subjects that DS/DD is interested in once they reach that stage - ie math, science, arts, foreign languages, flying lessons, etc. I would not want to be so tied down to a crushing load that other interests could not be added in.

I would then find a house within a 5 min drive of the school.

We've done some looking around for Mr W and we are holding off on buying a new home until we figure this out. We think that saving our $$ for specialized instruction and travel (summers abroad when young and in teen years ) along with public school will give Mr W the widest education possible.

We do have the opportunity to relocate and Albuquerque is a likely spot. I would much rather have our DD in first grade at a school vs. homeschooling so she can meet friends quickly.

If anyone knows of a good school district for PG kids there, please email me.

    Seeker,

I sent you a pm regarding the schools in NM. I've had very good success so far and Cym's kids seem to being pretty well also.
