I'm looking for something for my DD7, a second grader, as a "fun" math supplement. Math is her favorite subject, but her school curriculum "spirals" very slowly and she often asks for different math at home.

We've looked at the placement tests and based on what she has learned at school, she would straddle 2A/2B on the Standards edition. I was thinking of getting both and then adding the Challenging Word Problem books since I hear they are disappearing.

Or would you recommend something else entirely for a fun thing?

We're in a similar situation... DW has basically taken it on herself to replace DS6 (first grader)'s homework with worksheets for a math booklet that we've purchased. Still, he likes doing other more advanced math.

I just ordered a few Life of Fred books because those look to be a real good match for us.

Thanks!! I think the Fred books are a bit above her. Zaccaro looks good though. Is that more "fun" than Singapore? Honestly, she never met a workbook that she didn't like, so I'm sure either will be fine.

I think Zaccaro is more fun but she may find Singapore engaging as well. DS6 sure did. Last year at one point he did math problems instead of reading before bed. Go figure:)

I like both Zaccaro and Singapore. We homeschool and use Singapore. My plan is to spend the rest of the school year doing Zaccaro after we finish our current workbook (5A) and CWF.

I think the main advantage of Zaccaro is that it covers lots of different topics which may be more appealing.

Fred is a fun read. I wouldn't use it as a standalone curriculum but it's a really nice supplement.

Yes, DS6 loves the Murderous Maths books - it is his birthday soon and he has requested some more books from the series!

Oh yes, Murderous Maths are fun and have helped my son see that math is more than computations. He is reading numbers, key to the universe and arithmetricks. Hasn't finished either one but so far has learned lots of "pathetically useless facts" as they call them in the books -phi, pi, fibonacci, tricks for learning the multiplication tables, etc.
