I was wondering how folks first found this Forum. And if it has ever been difficult to point others here, or get back here.

I wanted to open a topic about getting ideas for a new name, or a subtitle or some way to refer to this board. I'm never sure if I should call it "GT CyberSoource Gifted Issues" or "Gifted Issues Discussion Forum."

I'd love to see folks be able to come here directly, without having to find Davidson Main page first, or be able to easily get back here.

I really love and am grateful for this little bit of cyberspace, and we could call it "Rubarb Pie" and that would be fine with me, but it did cross my mind.

For the record, I joined at the begining when I was given the link from the YSP, Young Scolars Program. I find my way back here many times a day, by Googling "Davidson Gifted Issues."

    Hi Trinity,

If I recall correctly, I googled: highly gifted forum. I never saw Davidson main page. The link I clicked directed me straight to the forum.

    Hi Trinity,

I think my first time was through YSP info. Could have been from Davidson home page or hoagies highly gifted link. Yes, I do the same...coming back once or twice a day. My DH thinks I am "addicted".

Interesting feature of humans - we care about families we've never met, we want each other to overcome obstacles, we like to be together...even this faint echo of community.

Funny Story - one of my email friends, who doesn't visit often, and I love to trade long detailed emails. When we talk on the phone I think we both end up frustrated because we want to talk about 16 different topics at once, and we want to get a whole developed thought out without interruption and being tempted into 16 new topics. Perhaps cyber relationships are more satisfing than IRL ones in certain ways. When my son is playing online games, he is often amazed at the number of "nice people" who want to play with him. I think it's the same ratio as "nice people" in real life (IRL) but the pool of people is suddenly so much bigger.

Ideas of Names for this Forum:
    "Raising Highly Gifted Children"
    "Life with Gifted Children"
    "Exploring Gifted Children"
    "Loving your Gifted Child"
    "Nurturing your Gifted Child"

    Smiles,
    Trinity

    LOL - Kcab,
That's a very good point about where do the parenting questions go - of course I put mine under educational advocacy, because so many many of my parenting questions are related to classroom fit! ((giggle))
apparently either my son is grumpy because he's tired from school trying to deal with the boredom or tired from school trying to deal with the volume of work....acceleration has solved some of our problems, but created new, thankfully smaller, ones!

I found this site while doing a search on gifted message boards or something like that. I lurked for a while and loved the fact that everyone here is so supportive.

I belong to some other parenting boards, and the support just isn't there. I posted something that mentioned "gifted" or "advanced" and was scolded by most parents for being arrogant enough to use those words and how everyone thinks their child is gifted etc.

Here a new person can come and ask "is this normal?", "is my child gifted?" and all will reply with kindness and care unlike anywhere else. That's why I started posting and learning how to advocate for my child.

I actually found this after researching information for gifted kids. I had stumbled across the Davidson website. I hadn't been in a while and had a hard time finding where this was the next time I looked.

I am sooooo glad to have found this site. I have no one to talk to about dd (other than family who knows her). Its incredible to actually talk to parents of gifted kids! I see others posts and feel like I could've written them. Its so great to finally feel like Im in a place where I can talk openly about dd without feeling others might think Im just "bragging". KWIM? You all can relate and it feels awesome to have found a "home!" Hugs to all!

Hello! I'm new, and quite happy to find a new board devoted to these issues; I've been posting on Babycenter.com's Gifted Children board and recognize at least a few faces (or screen names) here. I found this board through a Google search on grade skips.

    Hi Mia-

Is babycenter gifted still active? A friend of mine used to post there regularly, but she left after repeated encounters with trolls. Apparently some of the posters there were very hostile to people who discussed their extraordinary children.

Welcome to the board! Pull up a seat and get comfortable!
