Our DD6, 1st grade, took the WISC-IV a couple months ago and we got her scores recently. The psychologist we met with said he is going to fax the scores to the school. What should I expect? Do you think I should follow up with the school? Do you think they will do anything with it? Her composite "full scale" score was 140.

What have I gotten myself into? wink

Well, whether you follow up with the school depends on your dd's current situation. Do you feel she's well-placed? Is she happy at school? Is she getting the right social interaction? If so, then you may not need to do anything at all right now. Some schools are great at differentiating and keeping all kids learning at their challenge level. Many other schools, though ... not so much.

What prompted you to have dd tested?

Quite a few things, but mostly from the school not responding to my requests. And now I have "concrete" evidence that I'm not just a crazy mom who "thinks their kid is so wonderful."

Also, now as school has progressed, my DD is starting to show some defiance to her school work - not wanting to go to school, thinking certain activities are "dumb," etc.

Finally, my DD is the youngest in her class already, and while we knew she was bright, I wanted a true measurement to see where she is at.

I think also, that there are some things that the school is doing well with such as science, art & music, and others not so much. I'd like to see her go to 2nd grade for reading and math, but I'm not sure how receptive the school will be to that.

    BeckyC,

Doesn't hurt to ask! Might as well get started now, as you're are going to be spending a lot of time "asking" schools for stuff. Mia is right in that every school is different. Our district doesn't even have a "plan in writing" for gifted kids, yet the school my son is at is awesome!

Make sure you are clear in what you want prior to meeting with the school. There are several good articles on GT-Cybersouce (the site that brought you here) regarding advocating. Lots of pointers on making the best argument etc..Good Luck!
