    Minnesota Districts Expanding Gifted Programs

I thought this was interesting, in that the schools actually noticed and CARED that the gifted have been moved from regular public schools by their parents. They actually blame themselves!

They are trying to put money to help keep the ones they have. I especially like the focus on seventh grade, being that gifted middle school/jr high programs are usually quite weak.

Jayne - Thanks for posting this. It's great that MN has open enrollment, so people can shop a bit for public schools and create a bit of this competition.

The comments are sometimes a bit bizarre, but also interesting to see what the general public thinks (well, at least those in the general public who like to see their posts on the newspaper websites).

Thanks for posting that. The comments were amusing. I see that some GT kids chimed in.

I like this one for its misinformation. They have never been around a really bright kid.

"Most of the children that are pushed into the Gifted & Talented programs are really just kids whose parents spent time to make sure that their child gained academic opportunities and skills ahead of their grade-level requirements. There use to be a time when classroom teachers were allowed to organize their class by academic levels/abilities WITHIN the classroom. Those who were ahead of the curve were given more challenging assignments/requirements, those who were below grade were given academic opportunities that matched their ability but didn't "dumb down" their learning opportunities."
