Very good article about the value of what art classes teach, and a good insight into the process of doing educational research. What do you think?

I learned all those skills in my visual arts class. I had DS read "Dave at Night" to try to capture that experience for him. I hope that in High School he'll have plenty of time to take studio art along with the music that he's so involved with now.

I absolutely agree with the idea of art classes for everyone. Same goes for music.
My kids have art at their school taught by a practicing artist. Most parents look at it as a "funny, not graded subject", but some of us know better.
My daughter was having a really hard time drawing anything. After a few art classes, learning about simple techniques, she approaches her work totally different. It is OK to make a mistake, she realizes now.

In visual art, some of the best things happen by "mistake" if such a thing exists, that is.
