So I found out that DS6's weekly gifted pullout (1 1/2 hours) is on the morning that he has gym, so he will miss his second favorite school activity after lunch. frown I think he actually benefits from gym, so I'm bummed he didn't get pulled out during math, reading, or spelling, since he already knows the material. I don't think there's anything that can be done about it... just venting... mad

Aw, man! Can you ask about the schedule? Squeaky wheel and all that...

Schedules for pullouts are usually set in stone, but you never know. The worst they can say is no, right?

Unless that's a chip you want to save in case you need it later, of course.

Aww...that is a tough one. I know my son would also be upset to miss gym class. Is he involved in any athletic activities outside of school?

I was actually thinking about squeaking, Kriston. Maybe he can do gym with another 2nd grade class on another day. I don't think they'll reschedule the pullout and I want him to spend some time with other GT kids. But they've cut PE to once/week and I do feel he is entitled to it...squeeaak!

Maybe you could point out that removing him from gym class will force him to miss important exercise, will isolate him from other kids when he's best able to relate to him, and will force him to sit through classes of no benefit to him at the expense of one that is a huge benefit.

Could you enlist the aid of other possibly disgruntled parents?

Crisc, he does athletics outside of school - soccer in fall, baseball in spring. But the leagues in our area are so huge he doesn't end up playing with classmates - and most of the kids go to other schools. He connects with other kids through sports so it's really the social benefit from the school gym class that he'll miss out on - not necessarily learning athletic skills.

Val and Dottie thanks for the validation - I need it to pump up my advocacy muscles. I do suspect that there is a PA standard for gym and I'll look into it. (sarcasm alert) We wouldn't want his BMI to go up and contribute to a public health crisis...

Oh dear...PE once/week is already bad enough and now he has to miss gym....

Do seek out other parents' opinion on this as suggested by Val.
