Can someone who has experience help us interpret my son's WISC-V results? He is 6 years and 3 months old.

We dont have the more detailed results. Can experienced ppl on this forum tell us if he qualifies for the program? Should we submit an application?

    VCI - 150 (99.9%)

    WMI - 130 (98%)

    PSI - 100 (50)

    FRI - 140 (99.6)

    VSI - 119 (90)

    GAI - 144 (99.5)

    Full scale - 142 (99.7)

    Thanks a lot!

    Welcome!

Until you have five posts, your posts will have to wind their way through moderation. That's why this didn't show up immediately, nor receive immediate responses.

According to the formal criteria, your DS needs two 145s from among VCI, VSI, or FRI, or a 145 from GAI or FSIQ. From what I've seen, other posters have had DCs qualify with very close scores, such as your son's GAI. I have not sent applications for any of my DCs, but my opinion (not advice) is that it can't hurt to send in an application. What's the worst thing that can happen? They say "no", and your situation is unchanged.

And BTW, those are quite good scores. It may also be that the VSI scores have been artifactually lowered a little by his age-appropriate PSI (the VSI tasks are timed), in which case, it is possible that a future administration (in two or three years) may see increases in the VSI. At which point, he may qualify without hedging.

    Thanks for your insights.

I posted a couple of weeks ago and there were no posts and all of a sudden there are two. I guess I have to delete the other one.

Secondly, with respect to my son's application, we will throw an application anyway. Like you said, it cant hurt.

Third, you are absolutely right. My son has no concept of a timed test so it might have hurt his PSI. I had no idea the VSI was also timed.

    Thanks again for your reply.

A VECI of 145+ is listed as meeting minimum score guidelines: https://www.davidsongifted.org/Young-Scholars/Application-Process/Testing-Requirements. And correct me if I'm wrong, aeh (and others!), but isn't VECI derived in part from the subtests used for VCI?

Your son's VCI is in DYS range. If DYS is a goal and it would strengthen his application, could you go back to your examiner and ask if s/he administered the subtests necessary to calculate VECI, and if not, whether there's still an opportunity to do so?

The VECI is the VCI plus two other subtests, which may or may not be routinely administered. That is certainly an avenue to explore. However, the other two subtests tend to be more affected by experience, which doesn't always result in higher VECI scores than VCI scores, especially for young children.
