Here's what my niece is capable of at 2,the abc' sand counting to 10.Thai is her native tongue. So I am thinking this just memory working and not rationalzation at work.Does this look promising? The main goal here is to determine in which direction is she started? What are her achievements showing, bear in my mind her thoughts are Thai.Being as testing here can be deduced to ethic grouping, like asking a child what fork is when she uses chop sticks.Thats the way I was told it was.I guess that can go both ways, fork, chop sticks, etc. My child gave the answer prong for fork, that you can not do.,apparently.

Maybe that's reasoning instead of rational thought.

I believe that you are correct in that the ABCs and 123s are a matter of memory. Your niece obviously has a good memory and is probably partial to music - I am assuming that she picked up her ABCs and 123s from nursery songs? By the way, she also has strong motor skills given her ability to use chopsticks at age 2. I am not sure what else you can deduce from these facts plus she is only 2 years old. As for cultural bias, there are tests like the Raven that would remove that issue.

Thank you for the reply.I actually don't have much else to go on,she's in Thailand and last night was the first time I saw her mov.ing and talking on video chat.Didnt mean t,o say it but precious is good description from what I saw.I just said chop sticks because that's what they use there. To get into gifted here, you have to take prequestionaire then the RIAS test in this state,Fl.

She is two and in a different country so I don't think you can predict anything at this point. A lot depends on the local education system so you could research that.

I think age 2 is WAY early to say much about giftedness - especially from a video ... I remember both of my kids counting and doing abc's very early - mostly because of songs and even tv shows and toys ... There were other things that I would look for ... attention span and learning speed for example - but again age 2 is so young ... I think you can be super proud of her achievements no matter what - this is the age to enjoy their cute ABC's and first songs and attempts to dance and hop and climb - celebrate those with her- those are the best years!
