    DS5 Score very high on achievement testing (math area >160, language >135, while his IQ score is not as high, in the 12x range. His test scores varies even in the same domain, e.g. a subtest of spatial visual skill reach the ceiling while the other subtest of that area is only average. Similar thing happen in another domain of IQ test too. While his working memory is in the gifted range.
    Do anyone see this pattern in your kid's score? Is there any hidden concern about it?
    In his case, can I said that he is gfited or a high achieving kid? As I may have to apply for gifted school or other program and may need to use those term to describe him. Thanks a lot!

    Who did the testing on your child and did they give their opinion on whether he is gifted?

    I do have experience with some of the achievement tests for those ages. The tester told me that a 160 score does not translate to that number in IQ and the test is not meant to be an IQ test. Like Portia mentioned, that score can be obtained by having gone over that material before at home or at school.

    The variation of scores on the IQ test may mean something to look out for, and I hope you are able to ask the person who administered the test.

    Do you have a minimum IQ for the school programs? Lots of the time it is 130, but sometimes it is lower, or you can submit work samples or other information for them to consider. Good luck!

    Thank you both of you! The psychologist said "we could not find a consistent pattern to explain these discrepancies. It is possible that he might be experiencing more subtle attentional difficulties). I would like to know if there any hidden concern about that, and here is the test score.

    In visual spatial, his block design is 99% while object assembly is only 50% (which we also observed in daily life that he can build LEGO at age two, and play some puzzle solving toys designed for order age but he is very poor in playing jigsaw puzzles)

    In Fluid reasoning, his matrix reasoning is only 5% while his picture concepts is 91%.

    In processing speed, his bug search is 99% but cancellation is 37%.

    W/ IQ testing, I've learned that the tester is the most important variable. Need to be sure you have a tester w/ a lot of experience w/ gifted and 2E. This is why we tested privately w/ someone located on the Hoagies find a tester section.

    Thanks a lot! We end up finding a specialist in giftedness to do a Qualitative assessment, and end up she gave us an explanation about the mismatch in the subtest scores. She said that DS5 has visual processing problem which affect the subtest scores. Glad to find out that he is 2e and we can start some therapy to help him. Thus, the IQ test does show something in it. 🙂

    Interestingly, from what I remember from Susan Assouline' Developing Maths Talent (read it about 3-4 years ago) >80% was found to be generally the threshold for displaying mastery and allowing the student to move to the 'next level' in a curriculum.
