aeh, Thank you for the GAI! It's good to know. That is interesting that it is so close and actually less than his FSIQ.

Portia, thank you for that tip about a developmental optometrist. I am setting up an appointment soon!

puffin, that is a good point smile Thanks! The psychologist really does have a good reputation and over 30 years of experience working with gifted kids, kids with learning disabilities, etc.

I have an update for you guys - We had our initial meeting at the school. Surprisingly, they were very much in alignment and agreeable! To give you a little background, last week the school came back to us and said that they would need to do another academic assessment before they can incorporate our independent WISC-V assessment in the gifted evaluation. So we wrote a very detailed and formal email to the school highlighting our concerns and questions. Yesterday's meeting was a follow-up from the email. I guess they just tried to give us a formal response earlier, and based on our research and response back to them, they reconsidered.

It turned out to be a very cordial and short 10 minute meeting with them agreeing that an academic assessment was not necessary at this time, and that they will just be able to write a GWR based on everything they have from the previous assessment in April + the new WISC V score + the new 2nd grade teacher's input. We also provided more detail and filled out a new parent input form with a lot more detail than before.

They didn't come out and tell us that he will definitely get into the program. But they did say that the process will be a whole lot quicker, and procedural at this point. We should be invited to a GIEP meeting soon.

I will keep you guys updated!

Glad that it worked out. We had the same situation with our younger daughter - 98%-ile on most tests but 90 on one outlier in K, so they claimed she didn't meet the 95% cutoff. We had an independent SB5 given by someone who used to work in the schools, was very well versed in school district policies, and was an eager child advocate. If you get the right data/facts and professional support, simply focusing on logical decision making usually gets you to a good outcome. She said it was the parents who were overly emotional/accusatory/conspiracy nuts/etc. that caused her the most headaches.

We also had twins down the street that tested and were split/remained split through subsequent testing. That's a very tough situation to deal with.

If you have non identical twins they could easily be 10 to 15 points apart. That is not a problem when one is well above the cut off but where the higher is near the cutoff it is a different story. 132 and 118 are quite likely.

We got an email from the school confirming that the twins are now in the school's gifted and talented program!

Thanks again for all the help!

Cranberry, yes I can imagine how difficult that could be. I don't know what we would have done if one made it and the other didn't even after re-testing. Especially since we believed that both are eligible. I am so happy with our outcome. Phew.
