    Hi, all, happy holidays!

I want to ask about a test score question. So we finally decided to send in a DYS application for DD10. Her test scores qualify her. However, there is a sub-score that is surprisingly low--it's still a very high score compared with "population average", it's just much lower than what we expected for DD. I would think that this shouldn't matter as long as there are enough sub-scores that meet DYS criteria. Am I right or should we send supplemental material to address a low score? I just want to give her the best shot...

If the actual scores required to meet the requirements by DYS do I don't think you need to worry about a sub score.

Update: so both my kids are now DYS. I'm hoping we could really use this as a resource for advocating for DD. As for DS, he is already in high school and is for the first time happy at school. But because of some really bad experience in elementary and middle schools, he has built quite a bit of sarcasm toward "the system". I never really seriously thought about applying for DYS for him because our district has a really strong reputation and I just felt that we were kind of stuck in terms of what could be done. In hindsight we probably should have applied for DS earlier...

Congratulations on the DYS acceptance, playandlearn! I hear you on the strong school district being both a blessing and a curse. I'm glad your DS is happy now.
