DS 11 was tested on the SBV last week. After almost two hours, the tester came out and said that he was doing "very well," but that she would not be able to finish the test that day. She commented on him taking his time. I think they got through four or five subtests. I thought with the routing questions on the SB that it wouldn't take so long. Has anyone else had a similar experience with the SB? Is it taking a long time for him because so many sections are untimed, or because he was doing well? Or both?

The routing subtests help, but don't eliminate this, especially if an examinee performs quite differently on different subtests. Strictly speaking, he probably did not get through four or five subtests, but may have completed four or five testlets. There are multiple levels of each subtest, and a verbal and nonverbal version of each index (so 10 subtests altogether, with five levels of the eight that are not routing subtests).

He probably is taking a long time because of a combination of factors, including being conscientious, and doing well.

BTW, there are extended norms for the SBV, which you should ask about, if his IQ ends up being upwards of 145 or so, or if he maxes out a couple of subtests.

Thanks! He won't take the second half until the end of the month, so I have a long wait for the scores.
