I was told by the gifted teacher at my son's school that there were many more kids in her
program that had IQ scores as high and even higher than my DYS DS. It is a public school in an upper middle class neighborhood with 754 students. I find this very hard to
believe because DS statistically should be one out of 1300. The school system uses the RIAS to test kids for the gifted program but accepted DS's WISC scores done by an outside tester. Does anyone know if the RIAS produces higher scores than the Wisc IV?

The fact that you are in an UMC neighborhood may skew things quite a bit. My district uses a strict 130+ cut-off (although they also have some kind of alternative qualification route for ESL students) and something like 15% of kids in the district are IDed as gifted. Statistically, that doesn't seem quite right, but given where we live, it's probably not far off.

However, some say the RIAS does run high.

I missed that she is DYS...hmm. Does seem a bit less likely unless you live in Silicon Valley, etc.

My PG kids are only in the top 30% at their school. It's definitely a cluster, but clusters happen. Some schools have 50% of kids over 130. And there would be districts where very few kids even scored that high. IQ is genetic, and tracks to some degree with income and certain job aptitudes.

Thanks for the information! I had a talk with the principal to tell here our DYS
Family Consultant would be sending a letter describing the program. As I was
Leaving she said oh by the way we might have one other child who is has an IQ
    As high as your son.
