My ds9 did this at 5.5 yrs old and again at 6.5 yrs old. The last time, he was using his fingers to subtract, according to the report. Same child who has a portfolio package for DYS, but lacks the test scores since he keeps blowing off the tests. Sigh.

I've been holding off re-testing him until he's ready or I have more confidence that he isn't going to blow off the test.

My DS just did this in the summer. He wanted to be like the bad kids in Big Nate.

My DS who was always saying he loved school, tests, homework etc got a rude wakeup call when he read Calvin and Hobbes at age 6. He was shocked that it is actually cool to hate school, tests etc. That year, he refused to do homework and threw a lot of tests because he wanted to be like Calvin.
Thankfully, he has gotten over that phase now.

Well, I was going to ask here about my DD throwing a test, and you beat me to it. DD has been doing great in her pre algebra class at an "after school school". Last week she received a 39 on her test and her teacher asked for a parent teacher conference. When DD told me her score she was so excited that I became very suspicious. She happily asked if she could quit the class because her score was so low! She knew of another child who left the class because she didn't do well on a test. Hmmmm. Fortunately, the teacher knows very well that DD knows the work.DD was crestfallen why I explained that she didn't get to leave the school.
We are trying to decide if we will let her leave the class as she is moving into another grade, and that will be plenty of stress. She can always go back later.
