    Hello!

My 6 year old daughter has been very interested in learning French. We are unable to afford a private tutor, and there are no classes in the area.

Looking for any feedback on second language resources, preferably something without an accompanying cartoon or TV show.

You might take a look at Duolingo, which offers free online language lessons. It does emphasize writing as well as speaking the language, though. DD7 recently started Spanish, and while she likes the speech part, I think I will need to be her typist so it doesn't get too frustrating.

At that age, we did things like French Songs for Children and watching videos turned to French and playing with Poisson Rouge: http://www.poissonrouge.com/index_fr.php.

We used this one a little, and another with kids in it that I cannot remember the name of: http://www.learner.org/resources/series83.html

BrainPop.fr is still in Beta Test and is currently free. I suspect it will go to paid fairly soon. There is a French equivalent of Video of the Day: http://www.brainpop.fr/
