Someone recently suggested that we join Mensa for DS6. I am certainly open to joining anything that may be useful moving forward, particularly if it means he might meet kids like him. The issue is... There's no youth chapter near me. There are a list of benefits- including a great EPGY discount-- but the discount alone does not justify the initial fees to join. Am I missing something? Has anyone here joined? I'd love a review.

For families open to travel, there are regional gatherings (RGs) and an annual gathering (AG). The 2014 AG will be in Boston.

DS7 is in Mensa. We haven't invested any time participating in the "local" group. The only activity they have offered in our area was still more than an hour away. I was hoping to have a more active local chapter as well and it hasn't turned out that way. Wish I had better information for you.

Hello, How does one qualify for Mensa? What steps were taken?

Our friend's have said we should look into Mensa for our son. I'm not clear what the criteria is.

    Thanks in advance.

Yikes, they are holding their annual gathering over the 4th of July? Do they typically do that?

I wish I knew if there are RGs near me before I joined. There's not an active youth chapter.

We are in Mensa. It's a great way to meet new people and make friends; each area usually has their own get-togethers and calendar of events.

    http://www.mensa.org/national-groups

If you are in the US, you can search for the local chapter here:
    http://www.us.mensa.org/AML/?LinkServID=85BA4820-E622-849E-15A997378678432D

Most of the chapters will have their own website and you should be able to see the calendar of events. At a minimum, there will be someone you can contact for more information.

    Hi,
I'm the Youth & Education Ambassador for Mensa, and I'm happy to answer questions anyone has about it. We have a lot of benefits and services for gifted youth and their families, no matter where you live. You get a fairly comprehensive list here http://bit.ly/mensa-kids. Please feel free to contact me at GiftedYouth@americanmensa.org anytime!
