    I know there has been mention of a good advocacy book. I've been searching and reading multiple threads, and haven't found the title. I want to read more and educate myself before school restarts, because it seems there will be a big meeting as the director of special Ed is involved with the conversations we've been having with the principal.

    Full disclosure: This is a minority opinion, but I didn't find it to be very good.

    I also found that what I'd already uncovered and discovered on my own was more thorough and situation-specific.

    It's good if you are really just starting out and have trouble writing objectively and unemotionally, but otherwise I found that the information is pretty readily available elsewhere.

    Thanks, Dude.

    Hk- I am an awful writer (incase you haven't noticed). Luckily dh is a MUCH better at writing and speaking diplomatically.

    I guess I just want to be prepared before the meeting. I don't want us to get bulldozed because we didn't understand policy, rights, etc. I'm also concerned that if this meeting does not go well; it will have significant reprecussions since the director of special Ed (and gifted services) will be there.

    I hope I didn't open a can of worms by asking for accommodation during VT. Also, I am now re- rethinking that I should get the OT eval before this meeting, so all the concerns will be brought to the meeting.

    And I thought summer would be relaxing.... Silly me.

    Thanks kcab. I will definitely look at that one too. When we met with the principal, we were pleasantly suprised how she seemed willing to help us get our ds in the right place/ needs in regards to "gifted".

    Once we received the recommendations from VT, we just wanted to make sure that while he was in VT, he wasn't being put down and that the teacher understood fully why he would be having some difficulties with reading and writing.

    Let the research begin..
