We are thinking about applying for the young scholars and I am looking at the application and requirements. My 11 yr old daughter has been homeschooled for the last three years so she doesn't have so very much as far as 'paperwork' for examples/portfolio. Almost all of what she does now curriculum wise is either online, self learning or reading. She does have qualifying scores from the Explore test she took in Jan. through Duke/Tip. Does anyone have any insight as to how important portfolio/paperwork/examples are? Should I include older tests and such from when she DID attend school?? (Missouri Assessment Tests, Cogat, Woodcock-Johnson all scores in 99th percentile). Or is that too old and irrelevant? Any suggestions or advise? Thanks!

It sounds like you would need to put together a portfolio or get IQ testing. I definately would include the old scores regardless. Suggestions: a short video of her discussing a passion, a video of her doing above level math and then including a printout. I also had a hard time with the portfolio portion, but it is good to quantify. Good luck!

    hjb,

WJ III score above 150 (it must be within 2 years and looks like your DD took it a while ago) and qualifying EXPLORE score should get you in.

It depends if it is WJ III Achievement or Cognitive. Achievement is more commonly administered so I assumed it was that.

it's way old (the woodcock johnson and yes,you are right, it was "acheviement") she took it when she was 5 (in Kindergarten) for entry to the gifted program at school, she is 11 now so, it's waaaaaaaay too old to be a qualifying score! I'm just grasping at straws as to what to include and was thinking maybe to include this since she would have had that as a qualifying score had we applied then!?
