The committee is meeting today to decide which kids are "identified" gifted and get to go to the public gifted school. We applied for our son who will be in 2nd grade next year. He had to take the NNAT and OLSAT but we don't get to see scores until after the letters go out at the end of the week (even then you have to call to get them).

They take into account not only the score but the parent form, teacher form, and report cards. Hoping they can see through the hard time DS has had this year. He really needs to be at this school.

We sent his private scores too but they don't officially use them as they score each application. Wish us luck!

Update! We got the letter today saying that the public school system identified him as gifted (really, there is no doubt but you never know what can happen) and he will receive gifted services next year and beyond. Whew. What I didn't realize is that the letter about the decision on the full time gifted school comes separately. So at the very least, he would be in a clustered gifted room in the neighborhood school. Not ideal in my eyes but at least he is "identified" for the duration of the time he is in public school which gives us lots of options going forward. If he doesn't get into the gifted school, I'll probably appeal anyway because all this stuff with his vision and OT has come up since we applied.

I'll have to call to get his scores but I am going to assume that he did pretty well on their tests. Hopefully well enough so I won't have to appeal.

It's such a relief because so much has been up in the air regarding selling our house (two failed contracts with buyers) and buying a new house in the new city (we are under contract on a short sale and waiting to close but will have to rent out our current house). Now we can move forward!
