DD9 (4th grade) really likes aleks. She does it for fun after school, and her math teacher lets her work on it when she's done with her other work as well. Part of the reason she likes it is the subject, but she also prefers self-paced online learning. Does anyone know of a program like aleks for reading, language arts or science?

Thanks again for the recommendation. We signed up for Time4Learning, and DD9 has spent hours on it already. She has big plans to see how many grade levels she can get through by the end of the summer.

Aleks does have introductory chemistry, and I'd imagine they're planning to introduce other science subjects at some point.

I'll have to check that out as well. Science education is really limited in the local elementary & middle schools, so we're always looking for more ideas.
