So, I'm reading a parenting book, and I come across this:

"The challenge for parents is this: Most children spend close to 16 000 hours in an environment that may not be nourishing their interests. 16 000 hours of our children's lives are a lot of hours. If you happen to have a youngster who is good in school, that much of his day he's feeling successful, or at least competent. But for those kids whose natural talents are not what is generally taught in school, every day can be painful and exhausting"

I was amused by this because it seems to me both well put and accurate. I also think the words "does well in school" may not mean what she thinks they mean. And although that last sentence is true to my eye, I think there could be another one after it. So I'm curious what you folks will have to say smile
