I am not very knowledgeable about achievement testing. Wondering if someone could explain if the WIAT is an appropriate test for a school to administer to help guide the level of subject acceleration in math. If so, what sort of scores would you be looking at for a 1 yr or 2 yr acceleration to be recommended? If there is a preferrable achievement test what would it be.

My layperson's two cents: I don't think it would be a good choice, since it won't be mapped to your state standards or local math curriculum. They use the MAP test locally to us, which does give information that can be directly used in placement. I believe tests like the WIAT can tell you a testee's relative rarity when compared against the pool used for norming the test; but that rarit, even if completely accurate, won't be much help in deciding how far ahead to place a student.
