    Can someone please help me by pointing me to literature/studies regarding IEP's, 504's, and best practices for educating HG/PG kids with vision impairments in an elementary homogenous (no ability grouping) classroom school setting?

    We had accommodations for vision challenges for our dd - but they were very child-specific so I don't know they'd apply for your child. The way we came up with our list was to ask her eye dr to let us know what he felt was necessary and asked him for suggestions he'd seen work with other patients.

    I don't have her list with me at the moment, but some of the accommodations she had included:

    * seating close to the whiteboard
    * allowed to move to a place where she can see the whiteboard during work sessions
    * brought a water bottle + safety straw from home to suck on a few times a day (this helped her keep her eyes tracking and focused). Also allowed to chew gum or a granola bar etc throughout the day if she felt her eyes tiring and/or vision shutting down.


    Our other dd does not have a vision impairment, but has a memory challenge which impacts her ability to make connections to visual objects. She doesn't have formal accommodations yet, but we've been told to request audiobooks for her.

    Re the gifted piece of the equation - once you have accommodations in place for vision (and if she doesn't need any additional instruction in reading/etc - which I'm guessing she doesn't (?) - then think through the gifted part of things the same way you would for a gifted child with normal vision.
