Summit center quoted $650. I heard in other states it's only $300. Maybe we should do it during a vacation?

If you're willing to drive, we have used a ed.psych tester in Folsom, CA (outside of Sacramento). She charges by the hour and gives a very full report. I think we paid $225 for the WISC. She is on Hoagies and is really familiar with gifted kids.

Yes. That's how I found the summit center, which is the closest one.

We decided to pass on retesting, but when we were considering it for our oldest recently, the least expensive I could find in Colorado was $350. When I asked for referrals from those with gifted experience, most told me that they wouldn't even be willing to just test on the WISC, that they would only do a full psycho-educational eval which is usually over $1000. $650 sounds a bit high for just IQ, but I'm surprised that anyone is finding prices in the $300 and under range especially in CA.

I paid $850 at the GDC in Colorado for the WPPSI. We would like to retest our son on the WISC when he turns six due to ceiling issues. Where in Colorado can you get the IQ test for $350? Is this a practitioner with experience working with gifted children?

The tester I mentioned above has done several tests for us and has written comprehensive reports, been willing to talk to the former school, discussed a grade skip with us in depth and has provided lots of educational input and advice. I found her extremely knowledgeable and helpful, without being stuffy or an "expert". My DS tested with her at 5 1/2 and she got that he was a bouncing ball of energy. She allowed him breaks between each subtest, suggested wall push ups and seat presses, and let him do one subtest while wandering around the room. She wrote this all in the report in a way that reminded teachers that he won't sit still and that does NOT indicate ADHD (which was our first concern for testing.)

It took many, many phone calls of local ed.psychs and neuropsych before we found her! Most everyone else wanted $1500 to $3000 for a full work up and lengthy days of testing. We wanted to start small and go from there and it worked well for us.
