Here's a good one during such finacial times. Please join in.

I used to pay someone to make fancy birthday cakes. Now I have more watching my kids decorate them. (I think if our finacial situation didn't get worse I may not have figured this one out.)

My DS11 did not get a drum set because we can't afford it. He has made several arrangement of a drum set. They are made with pillows, boxes, tin boxes, tape and cords. He is using his creative mind.

I agree that there are advantages to having more time than money.

I'm going to have to disagree that the situation you're describing is "broke." smile

Yes, Broke is probally not the best word to use. I am only trying to say something good can come out of having less money sometimes.

My young son plays some sort of board game at school in the before care program. I wouldn't race out to buy it so he sat at the kitchen table and made his own version of it. Some sort of charades game. We had fun playing it. He is a great guesser but horrible at acting it out. His acting out 'wallpaper' was throwing his body against the wall, which was more like David letterman's Velcro suit.

I think there is way too much stuff that is bought to entertain our children. I try and encourage the natural stuff. But that usually works best in the summer.
