My DD was givent the MAP this fall to see if she might qualify for the gifted program even though her CoGAT was not so high (125 verbal).

She is in the fall of second grade.

    Math: 195
    Reading: 205

Anyone know what this might indicate? I did see some norms info, but I don't know if they would use national percentile or local norms? It seems like the reading is in the top percentile nationally, but would a kid in a gifted prgram usually score higher?

The new 2011 norms will not be out until the end of the month. Based on the 2008 norms nationally (nationally is what most districts use)
    math 195 is 91st percentile
    reading 205 is 97th percentile

Again this is based off 2008 norms and is not what the percentiles will be on the report you receive. In our district the child needs to score in the 95th percentile in both reading and math to be tested on the CogAT for the gifted program.

FYI -- I found this calculator on the NWEA website:

    http://www.nwea.org/support/article/growth-projection-calculator

From what I can tell, it is based on the 2011 norms.

In our district they use the CogAT as the qualifying test, along with teacher recommendation. My daughter was high, but not high enough, so they administered the MAP to see if she should still qualify. I'm not sure if this will do it or not. She came home from school and told me that she took a test and what the score was.

I'm hopeful that she'll get something more from the gifted program (if she actually qulifies) because she doesn't want to go to school because it's boring.

Apparently, I had my information wrong. I got a call from the gifted specialist that her Reading was 214. She tells me that it is 99.9% But, I can't find it in norms, other than the 2008 which has 214 as the highest score for second grade? Here's my frustration. She was tested at age 5 for admission to a gifted school, to which she was admitted but we couldn't afford. She had a 141 full scale, 143 verbal. Then, she missed th cutoff for the Olsat and the CoGAT, so they tested her with the MAP. Even though this is high, they wanted math in the 99% too in order to receive any gifted programming -- because of her "low" GoGAT score.

It woudn't matter so much to me if I didn't have a kid reading mutliple books at a time and comprehending them who cries about not wanting to go to school because it is BORING. She stayed home last week and stayed in her bed reading for four hours.

    What do I do next?
