Our school uses this to determine entrance into the GT.

I am surprised at which students made it and which didn't.

In fact, so surprised (won't go into details but...) that it makes me suspicious of the validity.

    thoughts?

Seeing as how dd7 just missed on this test.. I don't like it either. Her teacher was very surprised she didn't get in as was the teacher of her buddy class(She teaches 5/6). DD7 is being math accelerated this coming year (skipping second grade math)

My older child did not do too well in Cogat as well. For my younger one, I am prepping him with practice tests so that he is not taken by surprise on the exam date. He gets anxious very easily though he is a really bright kid. Bought this book called "4 Practice Tests for Cogat" from Amazon and we both love it. I am confident he will do well. The questions are actually pretty tricky. Easy to miss out the best answer as 2 seem almost right but only one is. As they say, Practice makes Perfect!

I don't mind giving details, just feels weird talking about others.

Mainly, there is a very bright little one in DS8 class that I was POSITIVe would be there with him, and she's not! Her mom said the child didn't want to go into the G&T so maybe she fudged the test - but the teacher said her scores were consistent with MAP scoring and such. But another little girl that doesn't seem to hold a candle to her (but rather bright too) and did get in... just surprising that it was one and not the other.

Then there is another child, well, at one point in working with him I thought he might have some LD issues. He's an avid reader and reading at a few grade levels ahead - scored high enough to have a composite of 130ish. There was roughly a 16-20 point score difference btwn reading, quantitative & non-verbal.

I am simply shocked that this child would have made it esp. when the other girl didn't. the difference between the 2 is like night and day - literally.

Another "friend" told me that there is a bit more to getting into the GT than the scores... what does that mean????
