My DS8 year old about broke my heart last night while we were talking in bed.....he said, "Mommy what if i really want a brother or sister - what can you do about it?" We talked further and came to find out that he really, really wants a friend badly and has been really kind of lonely. We live in a neighborhood with mostly retired couples and most of the kids he does hit it off with tend to be a few years old than him and several live quite a distance from us so regular get togethers is tough. We try really hard to stay involved and he does scouts along with several other groups but he has trouble connecting with kids his own age. He has been saying that he really wishes he could find a friend that had the same interests as he did or someone who didn't think he was weird because he likes certain things. Anyone have a child in the same boat in the Central Florida area that would like a get together? we are on the Space Coast near Melbourne, florida - would love to hear from anyone :-)

We live in Orlando, although we have a condo near Melbourne that we go to some weekends. Unfortunately, my son has only just turned 6, so they would probably not be a good fit if your son likes older kids.

We're near Melbourne, but my son is 14, so probably not a good fit. Have you tried hooking up with the homeschool groups in the area? I know "Homeschoolers and Friends" accepts families who are homeschool-friendly or "afterschooling" as well as homeschoolers, and there are at least one or two gifted kids in the same age range as your DS there.

PM me and I'll set up introductions if you are interested.

I am in Palm Coast (still a long drive, I know) & my ds is 9. What does your ds like to do? Mine is into marine animals, building toys, arts/crafts (he loves origami!). He also likes to play Lego games on the Wii. And he swims in his cousins' pool a lot. He has 2 older sisters & the neighbors are mostly girls so he misses his school buddies in the summer.
If they have any common interests, it might be worth meeting in Daytona or somewhere... PM me if you want to try to get together.
