    Hi,

This summer I want my 9 yr old DS to start working on two important issues:
Time Management and Internal motivation to initiate and keep going till the end.

DS has attention issues but is not on medication. He is also a very bright kid. Time Management is a big struggle because there are so many things in the mind that are more interesting than the work at hand. There is also no desire to take initiatives. But he knows a lot and has done well so far in school. We do use charts and rewards for time management (not very successfully though)

Has anyone out here tried time management strategies and did they work?
Anyone tried to the increase self motivation in their children?
This may be personality issue and tough to resolve smile

I follow the flyladycult ,um, website, and she recommends making frequent use of a kitchen timer set in the denomination of fifteen minute increments. Like that song from the 80's. "stand in the place where you live now face north. Think about direction wonder why you never did.". . kind of like that, but for synchronizing your his internal clock to the beat of the world's drum.
    It's been a long day.

RTM flylady says do homework, housework, and breaks all in 15 minute increments to internalize what 15 minutes fills like and what 15 minutes worth of work results in.

that makes sense.,, Aiden works slowly at school (perfectionism and work too easy combo) but when I gave him a 15 minute timer to take to school he got through all his daily tasks. another kid broke the thing so I am looking for a new one now.

I think that the internal motivation will increase if you can find the trigger for his personally preferred learning style/topic of interest.
