See, it even drove me to use a trite initialization. Who else is waiting? I believe I remember that susandj's application is in... anyone else who posts here?

Also, what's the earliest they ever come back with an answer? It would have been nice to have some advice and support before our next TAT meeting on the 27th, but it doesn't look possible, especially due to the need to fill out the next packet if one's child is admitted. In response to my query directly to DYS admissions, it sounded like a two-month process until an advocate is attached to one's case.

Also see the other May DYS acceptance thread.

    I am waiting also...

From the past threads, if accepted, you should get email from DYS end of the month around 27th or 28th.

Yes, we got the confirmation that the application is complete. Just sittin' here waiting... I wasn't expecting anything until the end of the month.

We got confirmation email that our application has completed. Hope to get some information around May 26. Because May 30 is the Holiday. Many people will head out for vacation on May 27th. Just hope they can send out result a little earlier. :-)

First of all, best of luck to everyone with their applications. I know how you feel.

If this helps, we received the email of our dd's DYS acceptance on Friday, January 28th this year (the final Friday of the month). The email came right around 5pm EST.

I was the one losing sleep over it -- and then my husband ended up seeing the email first and calling me! It went to both of our emails at the same time.

    It is tough to wait!

Thanks a lot. Yep, this week will be pretty tough. I think our school situation is temporarily 65%+ sorted, and we won't get any offered DYS services until after our next school meeting anyway, but as someone else wrote here recently, I go all misty-eyed when I read about the benefits of being in DYS.

We're waiting, too and are about to die. Just killing me. Might be just in time for a meeting with the principal, even without services established. No idea what we're going to do for the fall.

My thing is that I just don't have a sense of how often they accept vs reject applications, or ask for more information. I mean, most people don't apply unless they meet the basic criteria, right? Or are a lot of people using portfolios that are more subjective?

I have no idea how many people submit portfolios. Also, I was never able to pin down before how often they reject applicants with qualifying scores, if ever. I am guessing from what I've read that in general they cast a pretty wide net, but what do I know? I vacillate between feeling like DS is a shoo-in, and feeling like we have no chance. But I'm a nervous freak.

I have seen plenty of portfolio applications get accepted, but also some that are rejected. Having a portfolio is one of the basic criteria, even though obviously subjective, no? And I can see how a portfolio could be stronger than test scores, e.g. a 3-year-old demonstrating her working time machine or something. laugh Some of the portfolio entries might happen because someone qualified only on IQ or achievement even though they also tested the other-- but there seems to be a fairly common bunch that use a portfolio because they don't want to spend the money on another round of testing and just have the one type of results, for example because a school system only administered achievement testing.
