I made an appointment with the Children's Hospital in Boston with a Pediatric Neurologist. She examined him only for gross and fine motor skills, then tells me that she is not qualified to diagnose anything on the Autistic spectrum. When I made the appointment I was very clear on why I was making the appointment. So, I'm back to square one.
I'd call the Children's Hospital neurologist and ask her who
would be able to diagnose something on the Autism spectrum? I'd also ask her about the idea of making a diagnosis without meeting the child. That seems very off.
Sounds like you have a long road ahead but give yourself a pat on the back for how well you've done so far! I'd avoid sharing your concern with the school that they may not have your son's best interest in mind. That may make them too defensive.
