Hi Dear Katiesmom,
Welcome. My DS11 took the Scat at age 8, and enjoyed the experience heartily. My advice is to bring something short to read, because unless she is cronically a slow deep thinker, the test can take much shorter than the time allowed. Or maybe she'll be taking it at school so it doesn't matter. I wandered off thinking I had plenty of time and got in to a conversation about deep and wonderful things out of DS's sight line - boy did I hear about it!

I would tell her that she isn't expected to be able to answer all the questions because it's made for much older children, but to have fun. I don't know if there is a penelty for guessing, but find out and explain how to play that.

I have heard of one Way Gifted kid who didn't do well on the SCAT, but I've heard of tons of other ones who did really well, so odds are in your favor.

I have mixed feelings about hothousing, too, but can see a value to in in certian situations. ((shrug))

Smiles and Welcome,
Trinity
