The situation is very similar here. Around age 5, children start Kindergarten (K), which is not required in every state. Grades 1-6 (elementary school) are required, followed by junior high school (grades 7,8) and high school (grades 9,10,11,12). After that, students can choose a 2-year (Associate's degree) or 4-year college program (Bachelor's degree). A few continue with graduate school (2-yrs for Master's degree, 4+ years for Doctoral degree) or professional school such as medical or law school.

In many states, students can be homeschooled for all or part of their early education which can be a good alternative for gifted children.

Gifted students here have similar problems with poor identification, lack of challenge, and underachievement.
