Other questions - what do you want your school to look like? What is the intent (to give more time? to go deeper into topics? to pursue interests?) These will lead you to how your school looks. Some states require some virtual checkins or curriculum/reporting requirements. This will limit your choices to a degree.

I think our intent would be #1, to get away from a toxic social environment, #2, teach at the level of my child instead of grade level, same for pace of learning, and #3, hopefully have a shorter school day for core subjects so that one's own interests could be pursued, and #4, have flexibility for exercise, trips, etc.

I need to start looking into the state regulations.

I would really be interested in personal experiences if anyone has started homeschooling after elementary school. Thanks.
