In Arizona we have a huge emphasis on common core but not gifted. In fact to be considered gifted the child must get a 97% on one of the cogat scores. So a child can score 97% in vernal but 20% in all other areas and they are put into a gifted class. Ds scored 92% in verbal, 96% in non verbal, 98% in quantative and 98% composite which I would think shows a big difference than a child who scored high in one area but not so much in another. Maybe I'm understanding it incorrectly butto pplace all these kids in one class based on age and not ability is what I think may be the problem and I don't understand how its any different than the child just grade skipping one level. And in Arizona there isn't much choice for school options :-(
