What has been your child's experience with a teacher after getting the diagnosis ADD? We went through a Spring of testing where not only did we find out that DD9 was gifted, but she probably is ADD inattentive as well. She's always received all 4's so her grades have never been affected, and her behavior has always been "the perfect child" as she was scared of getting in trouble. Will her ADD become the label now vs. her abilities? We are happy that we know why she forgets what one said seconds after you said it and loses homework, shoes, etc, but we don't want to see a teacher focus predominantly on that one issue.

You may wish to get a formal diagnosis and begin partnering on a plan to help your child learn any missing skills through direct teaching (skills which other kids may learn by observation of common everyday situations).

There is a lot of information available regarding support and accommodations to help children with 2e to develop the needed life skills such as executive function, organization and follow-through, staying on track, positive social interaction. You may wish to search the forum, Hoagies Gifted Education Page, the Davidson Database, and the internet for keywords such as "2e", "twice exceptional", "wrightslaw", "IEP", "504", and possibly also the book and related you-tube video Misdiagnosis and Dual Diagnoses.

Yes, we had an ADD assessment. We have a psychologist who we will be working with to help DD. I will check out the video!
