My DS took the EXPLORE test (he's a third grader - 8 years old) and I'm not sure what to make of the results. The percentile scores (normed against the 8th graders) seem fairly high, though I'm not sure what level of giftedness they would correspond to.

English 97th percentile
Math 70th percentile
Reading 97th percentile
Science 93rd percentile

We're all very thrilled about these scores - least of all my son - but I'm not sure what level of giftedness they would really indicate. Thank you!

My 8yo has very, very similar scores. We had him tested on the WiscIV a few weeks later and he qualifies for the Davidson's FSIQ cut off. I'm afraid I don't know how reliable or useful this information is to you as I don't know about any Explore test to WiscIV correlations out there. I will hazard a guess that your child has an excellent chance of getting into the YS program based on the scores.

We applied to the DYS program without IQ scores (we were told about a chance to test with a student psych for cheaper a few weeks after submitting our application so he took the Wisc after I submitted the DYS app).

I took a gamble, submitted his Explore results and a portfolio showing some of the work he does at home (we homeschool). We got in. Hope this helps you somehow.

Ah, thank you! It's good to know that, at least from what you're saying, he would have a good chance of getting into the DYS program. He's always been quite precocious, especially verbally. He said "Hi, dad" to me when he was 4 months old, and and my wife didn't believe me until a month later when the ladies who run the daycare he goes to said that he had been saying "I want breakfast" when he was hungry. smile By the time he was a year old, he was complaining to the neighbors that I told him what to do all the time!

Of course, specificity on what level of giftedness it would be would be wonderful if anyone has anything - but this was great news!
I will send you a PM (look for flashing envelope!) on what we found out about my son. Looks like he has a kindred spirit in yours! smile
