Hi,
My DS8 was recently tested on the WISC IV. On Block Design he scored a scaled score of 19. However right below his score, it says that he scored 14 timed.

On the last page of the report the psychologist stated that he was typically quick with gestalt reasoning problem solving, but needed slightly more time on the two of the complex designs. As a result, the untimed version was used in calculation of his PRIQ.

I thought block design was always timed and you do not get a credit for completing a puzzle if you are outside that time limit, even if it is correct.
Was the psychologist wrong to use 19 in calculation for his composite and FSIQ scores? Is there such a thing as an untimed BD test and is it possible to hit the ceiling that way? Thank you!

There is a partially-timed scoring that can be used for block design, where the same time limits are used, but there are no extra points for speed. This is probably what your evaluator meant by the untimed scoring. The norms are built right into the standard WISC-IV manual.

Thank you Aeh, you are very helpful. But is it possible to get a 19 using partial timed scoring? I thought the only way you could get a 19 is earn those timed bonuses. Thank you!!

Depends on how old you are. If you are on the younger end of the norms, yes, you can earn a 19 using no-bonus-points scoring. If you are at the older end of the norms, then, no, you can't earn a 19 without bonus points.

I see, thank you. He was tested at just turned 9 actually, not 8. I appreciate your help smile
