I got the impression that our government was somehow invested in the technologies through subsidies. Other countries are not financially invested in the technology so they are free to use common sense and ban the questionable food until it is tested and proven safe.

Since no one outside the US would buy the untested food products, the only way to reap the profits for the unsellable stuff was to declare it "safe until proven otherwise" in the US.

Companies like Kraft can not sell their products in other countries using this stuff, so they use the "non-toxic" crops for production for the overseas markets and save the cheap untested stuff for the US market (Hooray for us)...I wonder if there are studies on the increase in food allergies in the US as compared to other countries since the 1990's.

"Corn engineered to release it's own insecticide" I really hope that isn't making it to our grocery store shelves.
