Has anyone here used Stanford's online school? We're thinking of enrolling one of our kids and I'd like to hear about it from people who've used it.

EPGY? Wolf is using one of the homeschool group options and it is working wonders for him. Do you have any questions?

The OHS is part of EPGY but I'm wondering if the courses are different. The Stanford website has a number of openings for OHS instructors.

I've heard about the "boring man" voice in some of the EPGY courses and hope that the OHS isn't the same. I'll definitely ask them if they use all the EPGY course materials or if there's a difference.

Does your son think that the courses he does are dry? Is he the boy who coined the "boring man" nickname? smile

Thanks.

The old man who narrates most of the EPGY math and language arts courses is Professor emeritus Patrick Suppes, who has been working on computerized instruction since the 1960s http://suppes-corpus.stanford.edu/browse.html?c=comped&d=1960 . You can listen to one of the videos at http://suppes-corpus.stanford.edu/lectures.html and tell that is the same voice as on EPGY. I like the fact that he has been personally involved in creating the course.

My three children use EPGY and like it.

Wolf likes the programs and has never complained about the instructor's voice. There is a lot of positive reinforcement and it's set up so you only get as many repetitions as you need to learn the material. It does reviews every so often to reinforce the concepts, but never enough to annoy Wolf (not a fan of repetition).
Here is an old thread I started:

I realize this thread is a little old, but I've started looking for online resources to help with possible homeschooling next year and this looks good--but does anyone know if they are strict about the age (i.e., does your kid have to be in 'regular' 7th grade, or about 12)?

Ooooh, Stanford's online school, I heard of it recently. It seems great.
DD has been using beestar for after school learning. It is curriculum-based from 1st grade to 8th grade. The program is full of all real life word problems, challenging stuff to help kids thinking.

A Google search of "beestar yvonnemommy" indicates that you have recommended beestar on many forums, including several messages on this one.
