Experience with having CTY integrated as the gifted "pull-out" school wide?

In case we don't get lucky in the lottery (I am waiting for a citywide gifted school -- the accelerted program) (all 99th percentiles go into a lottery for the available spots).

I am looking at using CTY as a pull out in our zoned school, which is really good with a chess program etc. The PTA is super strong and influential and I am rounding up support. And the NYC DOE dept for G&T is supporting me. I need to present to the principal. I do not know how easy it is or how much CTY will help. I am in contact with them, but just preliminary stages right now.

Hi Wren,

It's great that your school is willing to consider this!

I don't have experience with using CTY as a pull-out at school (yet). I'll be watching this thread with interest to see if anyone else chimes in.

We're currently planning to propose to our school that they allow DS to use CTYOnline at school (not schoolwide as a program). I contacted CTY last week. They were very responsive. I requested and very quickly received a CTYOnline packet to provide the school. I found it to be a little more generic than I'd hoped, but they did also send a hard copy course list, which I think will be helpful at our meeting. At my request, CTY also provided the name of a reference at a school currently using CTY, so that someone from our school could contact them if desired.

CTY has a "CTY In School" Department, which is who you want to contact. The person with whom I spoke and corresponded was quite helpful.

Best of luck! Fingers crossed for you!

I was surprised to acutally not want my DS7 to do CTY at school. After he started it, I liked to see where his weaknesses and stregths were. I know we can see that in the reports but he needed more guidance than sitting there alone. Well I guess if he had a teacher to help him it might work out. I doubt that would be the case. He would most likely be sitting alone. I am not sure it would be good. And now that he is doing harder work it is even more of an issue.
