Wow, I loved that! I found myself wishing that there were these types of programs available when I was that age. blush Oh well, I guess I would just be happy now if someone were able to do that the east coast. No rush, DS won't be eligible for 7 years anyway. LOL

Seriously, I think brushed off a little more of my GT denial. Thanks

Washington State has all kinds of inovative programs for gifted kids. It's Microsoft's headquarters and they dump a ton of money into funding these types of things.

Washington is one of the states under consideration if NM runs out of options for my DS.

Cool program, but i'd be interested to hear about other programs to which you refer... i live in WA and, although we have found an amazing private school for my boys, the alternatives i've seen are mostly very expensive private schools (or, as you mentioned, schools in areas directly surrounding Microsoft which makes it a very expensive living proposition).

I haven't seen that many (esp. in the younger age) opportunities. Could you share what you've found? Thanks!

I'm also in WA, and I'd be interested in the amazing private school that you found. I'm not happy with the one my child currently attends, and the other one doesn't look to be any better.

Bellevue does have a public, self-contained program for HG (99.7th percentile and above) kids. However, as far as I can tell, they only accept their own administration of the CogAT, with no appeals process involving private testing.

I am glad to live in a city with the UW, though, and we'll definitely be taking a close look at their early entrance program in a few years.

Nan - I have PM'd you re: the school. I assume you are in Seattle?

Thanks for posting that link. I've heard of that program before but the news story gave a better picture of it for me. That program is one of the reasons I'm wondering if I did the right thing in accelerating my children, and whether I should officially drop them back down to their correct grade level.

To explain that more accurately...we homeschool through Columbia Virtual Academy. CVA is a public school program so we had to put them into a grade level and I submitted testing to officially accelerated my kids. Now I'm thinking it might be better to put them back down so that they are compared to their age peers on testing and so that they'll be the proper age for grade in case we choose to pursue programs like these or other gifted programs.
