I have been looking at these on-line math programs and I was wondering about how they are implemented. Specifically the K-6 math. Do the kids need much adult help during the lesson and how much time do they generally spend on it each day?

My DS used EPGY for K-2 math. Kids can be very self-sufficient with the program. There are video tutorials and problems. Especially from what we saw in the early math, there was not really any need for adult help. If I remember correctly, each session was went about 20 minutes. You could choose to do more than one session. The program keeps track of which types of questions you are answering correctly, and progresses when you adequately get a concept. It had reports that parents/teachers could look at to view progress.

My son didn't like it; he thought the speaker was dull and the problems were repetitive, even on GT settings (which provides for less repetition).

You can adjust the session length in EPGY as well as the grade level to match your kid's level. Wolf skipped two grades in it and works a 20 minute session 3 times a week which gets him easily through a grade a year.

Wolf loves it and has done grades 2 through just starting 5 now. It is all he's ever known for math and language arts. He does need supervision, but mainly to clear up bits and pieces that the program doesn't explain clearly or that he just flat out doesn't get from the way they explain it (the geometry problems can get awkward). He's also very much a "Did I do this right?" kid though. He hates getting things wrong. I'd say he calls for help once a session or so for math.
