For those who have done Algebra 1 through CTY, do they do the same course as Thinkwell? The CTY site shows a Thinkwell demo, but the table of contents for CTY and Thinkwell are very different.

We are signed up for Algebra 1 Thinkwell already, but we are rethinking this for our homeschool curriculum because our public school is setting up some roadblocks to re-enrollment next year. CTY would hold a lot more weight than Thinkwell. But if CTY and Thinkwell are the same (besides price), it would be good to know.

Did you find out if they are the same yet? Thanks.

MasterOfNone,

Are you comparing the Honours Algebra I on CTY with
Thinkwell's Homeschool website course (http://www.thinkwellhomeschool.com or http://www.thinkwell.com/student/product/algebra1) ? -- the homeschool algebra 1 looks the same as the 2nd link.

Do let us know what you find out.

Thinkwell is based in Austin, TX, so I wouldn't think they are part of CTY. Either they've licensed the course data from JHU, or they are stealing the data.

the courses belong to Thinkwell and CTY uses them/licensed to use them. CTY also uses Thinkwell's biology (not 100% sure)...

Update to this thread. Currently using Thinkwell precalculus. It appears to be identical to CTY. Demo is thinkwell and list of topics appears to correspond to the list of lessons in thinkwell. Nothing appears to be added or removed. Though I didn't go through lesson by lesson to compare.

So, my guess is that precalculus Thinkwell is the same as precalculus with trig for CTY. But Algebra 1 does not appear to line up. CTY algebra 1 honors looks to me more like algebra 2 thinkwell-- but I'm not 100 percent sure.

If you go to the cty website

http://cty.jhu.edu/ctyonline/courses/mathematics/algebra_1.html

and the Thinkwell website

http://www.thinkwellhomeschool.com/products/algebra-1

you have a side by side comparison of subjects offered (look at the lesson plan for detailed topics)

On the right side of the Thinkwell page, it says it's used by Johns Hopkins' CTY, so I think you solved the riddle!

OMG! Is it really $150 for Thinkwell and $750 for CTY?

MoN, your original post was a couple years back. What was the b & m school issue relating to Thinkwell, and did you get it worked out? Just curious because in the next 2 weeks, we'll know whether we're heading off to homeschool, and I'm lining up curriculums with an eye toward either returning to b & m school for high school, or heading into dual enrollment at a community college in a few years.
