I'm thinking this might make a good 5th birthday present for my DS - y'know, he's five, so's Fred sort of thing.

Does anyone who knows about Fred tell me if this is a really bad idea? Also, which I'd be better to get - the new elementary books, or start with 'Fractions'? The site says you can start Fractions if you know your timestables which he does... but should we look at Apples, etc first?

My son loved/loves Fred. The new ones weren't out when we started, but I would have started with them if they were available. They are fun to read no matter where you start. My kid is a read-them-in-order kind of kid so starting at the very beginning is preferable!

Thanks. I've ordered Apples, Butterflies, Cats, Dogs and Fractions. I'll give him the elementary ones for his Birthday and then let him 'find' the other one on the shelf at some point, lol!

I recently got them for my 6 and 7 year olds. We LOVE LOVE LOVE Fred!
