We have this one and like it a lot:
http://www.amazon.com/Usborne-Illus...mp;s=books&qid=1251879806&sr=8-1
We also gave it to a friend of DS's for his 6th birthday and it went down well.

good question. It would be great to have on of these. I will have to look into it. I was trying to remember some things a few days ago when DS5 asked me and I couldn't remember what to do with the number that is placed in front of square roots. I used to be pretty good in math...but I have lost most of that knowledge unfortunately

I've found that Wikipedia includes pretty comprehensive coverage of math topics, once you get beyond the elementary level. Google "prime number" or "fibonacci" or "pascal's triangle' for example, and the Wikipedia entry is the first hit you get.

The entries usually have some accessible sections, and then go right on up to graduate-level stuff, so some of the material will go over just about everyone's head, but there is a lot of good stuff in there, and it is reasonably well cross-linked to related topics.

I have the book with me right now. Yes, it is 608 pages. The Yellow Pages which include Indexes and Forumulas start from pg 559. The copy I have is 2004. Not sure if it makes any difference. I chose this over the Usbourne because of the reviews online I think. :P
