Hi, I was wondering if anyone could give me specifics on this program. We have a day location nearby and DS8 was actually interested in attending. Problem is I misread the brochure and the courses that interested him were in the 4-6 program. Since he's currently in third grade, they'd put him in the 2-3 grade program. Have any of you been able to get your child in the 4-6 program when he or she would have been 2-3?

What is the program like? Is it school? Is there homework? Where do they find the teachers? Are they just local private school teachers teaching at their typical grade level?

I'd love some more details. I've searched the topic and only see reports of your DC either liking or not liking it, but not a lot of specifics. I'm thinking if DS wants to go to summer school, it's a step in the right direction for a kid who has hated school (to put the bad experiences behind him). But if possible, I'd like to know what to expect. Also, if he's limited to the grade 2-3 program, we'll skip it, as the courses don't interest him anyway.

I've heard mixed reviews on the SIG camps. One HG+ kid I know loved it, but other families have said that it isn't near challenging enough for PG kids. I think it may be better than regular academic camp, but not as strong as CTY, but that's my impression based upon feedback form others. My kids have not done either CTY camp or SIG. I'd suggest that you go ahead enroll him in the course he is interested in, despite the higher grade. Make it clear that this is what he is interested in, and you will not be sending him if he is not permitted to take this course. SIG is more likely to be flexible with the age requirements than CTY, I believe.

Thanks, Lorel. I already emailed them and will see what they say. Unfortunately, I hit the problem page the cilck after I entered my credit card number on the form, so it may be too late to get my money back. And I think he'd love the CTY science session, but we'd have to stay in a hotel somewhere for a couple of weeks, which won't work. I think a summer hanging out at home with robotics and maybe some other camps thrown in will be just fine.
