Nathan is 5. He has recently read all the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books, and is ploughing through the Roald Dahl books.

What's next? He really best enjoys books with pictures still (like Roald Dahl and Wimpy kid), but he loves the stories to be complex, in-depth and longer. He ready The Twits in a few hours for example, so it's not enough story. He loves non-fiction too, but at bedtime his request is always for a book to cuddle up with (story)

I'm trying to find any books that are still appropriate content wise for a 5 year old and with pictures still. Possibly a series that we can keep on keeping on with - I like how the Roald Dahl books are B&W pics so that they are not the focal point of the books.

Any ideas/suggestions welcome smile

Off the top of my head--the Narnia books, Beverly Cleary, EB White, Oz books, Doctor Dolittle books, Little House books.

Have you seen the sticky threads for book recommendations for age 3-5 and age 6 to 8?
The Phantom Tollbooth has wonderful line-drawing illustrations, an adventure of a story, and fun fun wordplay. Great vocabulary builder, too.
Our DS really enjoyed all the Geronimo Stilton books. There are many, which helped!

At that age my son just loved the "My Father's Dragon" trilogy.

I hadn't actually looked at them (oops!) I saw them a while back and made a mental memo to check them out and then forgot. Thanks I will go see

I'd like to put in a good word for the lesser known "Dot and the Line" also by Norton Juster. Not sure if DS3 gets all the jokes but he likes it and it can be read one sitting.
